Import / Transit Requirements for Cats and Dogs into Nigeria

Age Of Animal

The animal has to be 7 months or older in order to travel to Nigeria, they have to have their own Rabies vaccination that they can receive at 3 months and their own Rabies Titre blood test that has to be at least 92 days old before travel.

Microchip

Pets must be microchipped, the microchip must be either implanted before the Rabies vaccination or with the Rabies vaccination.

Rabies Vaccinations

Pets must have a Rabies vaccination that is older than 31 days, but not older than one year. Yearly booster vaccinations is required to keep the previous vaccination up to date.

Normal Canine and Feline vaccinations

Annual vaccinations are required.

Dogs:

Canine Distemper, Infectious Canine Hepatitis, and Canine Parvovirosis

Cats:

Feline Panleucopaenia (Infectious Enteritis), Feline Respiratory Disease Complex (Cat Flu)

Kennel cough vaccinations and snuffles vaccinations for cats are recommended, should your pet require boarding before or after they travel all reputable kennels would insist that you produce a valid vaccination certificate.

Rabies Neutralizing Antibody Titre Test

The Rabies Titre blood test can be done 31 days following a microchip and rabies vaccination. A blood sample must be collected from the dog or cat and has to be send through to Onderstepoort for testing. The blood test has to be between 92 days (3 months) and 730 days (24 months) old before export.

Health Certificate (Valid for 10 days)

The pets have to be accompanied by a health certificate issued by a private veterinarian certifying compliance with the above requirements and this Health Certificate must be stamped & signed by the SA State Vet.

The Health certificate must be done within 48 hours of travel.
