Import / Transit Requirements for Cats and Dogs into Namibia

Age Of Animal

Puppies and Kittens under the age of 3 months (12 weeks) are too young to have had their own rabies vaccinations and have to then travel under the mother’s rabies vaccination. The mother has to have had a rabies vaccination that was current whilst being pregnant with the puppies or kittens in order to be deemed as being valid. The puppies or kittens must have a microchip implanted before any vaccinations are given.

Microchip

Pets must be microchipped, the microchip must be either implanted before the Rabies vaccination or with the rabies vaccination.

Rabies Vaccinations

All international destinations require a valid rabies vaccination for travel. Valid means that the vaccination must have been given no more than one year and no less than thirty days before the intended travel date.

We suggest that you check your pet’s vaccination certificate in good time, so as to ensure that there will be no problems when the time comes for your pet/s to travel.

Normal Canine and Feline vaccinations

Annual canine and feline vaccinations are recommended. Kennel cough vaccinations and snuffles vaccinations for cats are also recommended, should your pet require boarding before or after they travel all reputable kennels would insist that you produce a valid vaccination certificate.

Import Permit

Should the pet/s be originating from a country other than South Africa (e.g. non neighbouring, the pet would be required to have an IMPORT PERMIT also. This import permit can only be obtained in Namibia.

Health Certificate (Valid for 10 days)

The pets have to be accompanied by a Namibian Inter-territorial Movement Permit issued by a private veterinarian certifying compliance with the above requirements and countersigned by the State Vet.

In general this certificate is valid for 7 days from the date of issue.
~ Our clients will be supplied with the correct & filled in Heath Certificate.
