Import / Transit Requirements for Cats and Dogs into Ecuador

Age Of Animal

Puppies and kittens have to be 3 months or older. Puppies and kittens have to travel on their own valid rabies vaccination.

Microchip

Required prior to Rabies Vaccination.

Rabies Vaccinations

Date of rabies vaccination must be at least 30 days old and not older than 1 year prior to departure. The rabies vaccination must be valid for 60 days after arrival into Ecuador.

Rabies Neutralizing Antibody Titre Test:

If the origin is a non-American country, an RNATT is required.

Annual vaccinations

Annual canine vaccinations have to be older than 30 days and not older than 1 year upon arrival. 

Dogs:

Health Certificate (Valid for 10 days)

The pets have to be accompanied by a health certificate issued by a private veterinarian certifying compliance with the above requirements. This certificate must be translated into Spanish.

In general, this certificate is valid for 10 days from the date of issue.

Internal and external parasite treatment

All cats and dogs entering Ecuador are required to have internal and external parasite treatments administered by a registered veterinarian at least 21 days prior to entry into Ecuador.
